The P:\ drive: an access point that can span all your FC SAN, iSCSI SAN, NFS, and direct-attached storage. Pancetera’s SmartView technology enables you to see all of your virtual machines and their disks in a single network-attached filesystem that you can mount on any Windows or Unix system using CIFS or NFS. Your VMs appear in this filesystem regardless of what type of storage they are on, or whether the VM is running, suspended, or powered down. You can group the VMs by hypervisor, vCenter group, or create your own folders to organize VMs for backup or replication tasks. SmartView is updated when you create, delete, migrate or vMotion a VM so that you can always see your full environment. You can mix and match vCenter and non-vCenter hosts, stitch together local and remote hosts into a single place to browse, copy, backup, or replicate VMs. Because Pancetera presents SmartView as a CIFS or NFS share, you can use all your standard tools that work with directories and files, with no specific VMware knowledge.

When you read a VM from SmartView, Pancetera’s SmartRead technology is instantly available so that you get the fastest data operations available when working with your VMs. You can even drag and drop running VMs from your VMware ESX environment to your local Windows desktop without touching any VMware-specific user interface or taking the VM offline.
